These Brass compasses are also called Engeering compasses. They were originally used in the British Army between the first and second World Wars. They were standard issue and very compact in size. Their compasses are luminous so readings can be easily taken at night. A sighting arm folds out and readings are taken with a magnifier, which is on the sighting arm . These compasses get automatically locked when their arms are folded down. This clever mechanism protects the dial and magnetism during transportation. A small knob on the side freezes the compass card for taking reading. They are 5.5 cm in diameter and 2.3 cm thick. They come in wooden cases. They are very light weight.
